Ipswich is emerging as one of South East Queensland’s fastest-growing corridors. The city welcomed 2,331 new residents in just three months and is now home to 268,186 people. At the current pace, Ipswich is set to reach 270,000 by the end of the year. This growth is reshaping suburbs, expanding housing options and opening new opportunities for people looking to build their dream home.
The Communities Powering Ipswich’s Growth
According to Ipswich City Council’s September quarterly report, Ripley is at the heart of the city’s growth, adding 167 new homes and welcoming 515 new residents in just three months. Surrounding suburbs, including Spring Mountain, White Rock, South Ripley and Redbank Plains are also seeing strong demand, as buyers look for more space, modern homes and affordable options without sacrificing access to major employment hubs.
The rise in population is being matched by an increase in housing supply. In the September quarter, 840 new dwellings were delivered, a 19 per cent increase on the previous quarter. Council approved 1,178 new lots and created 348 additional lots, helping to keep pace with the growing demand across the city. For homebuyers, this means more choice and a better chance of securing a home in a suburb that fits their lifestyle.
Infrastructure That Supports Growth
Ipswich’s growth is also increasing the need for transport and infrastructure improvements. With Ripley Valley designated as a Priority Development Area the council is calling for support from state and federal governments to deliver essential upgrades.
High priority projects include improvements to the Cunningham and Centenary highways, along with a public transport corridor linking Springfield Central and Ipswich Central. These upgrades are expected to make commuting easier, connect communities and support the city as it grows.
More Than Homes
Ipswich is not just expanding in housing. In the past quarter, the city added almost 15 kilometres of new pathways and bikeways, and more than 12 kilometres of local roads. These developments create more connected, walkable communities. New schools, parks and retail hubs are also emerging, helping Ipswich meet the needs of its growing population and offering lifestyle options that attract families and first-home buyers.
Why Ipswich Is Catching the Eye of Buyers
Ipswich’s momentum reflects a wider trend across South East Queensland. Many buyers are moving beyond inner city areas in search of space, affordability and lifestyle.
For builders and developers, the city’s growth points to steady demand and opportunities for new projects. For buyers, Ipswich offers the chance to access modern homes, emerging communities and a balanced lifestyle without compromising on connection to work, school and leisure.
Ipswich is no longer simply a fast-growing fringe city. It is becoming one of Queensland’s key emerging cities, with growth that shows no sign of slowing.
